Background...
The Council’s involvement in the GLR is a significant
cornerstone in its Sustainability Strategy for this area and
its community. The direct cost to the Council is relatively
minor but the benefits are enormous because it has
assisted to develop a culture of co-operation between
the various educational providers that operate within the
Shire’s boundaries.
The GLR encourages the broader adult
community and focuses on the following fundamental goals:
• To create a management structure that will support the organisation in
its pursuit of its vision
• To encourage each member of our community to fully participate in our learning community
• To enhance the existing education and training provision within our communities
• To ensure that the region’s future employment training needs are being met through competent planning.
This Council’s main role is to provide a space of engagement both in the sense of a physical meeting area but also by encouraging the meeting of the minds that creates the synergy to explore new ideas and ways of achieving the social outcomes desired.
The Gwydir Shire Council acts as a full participant in the
process and is an ‘honest broker’ between the GLR
participants. The Council’s only motivation is seeking a positive outcome for the community that it serves.
Trust is the prerequisite to blurring the boundaries of the structural silos that work against active engagement between service providers. The Council actively facilitates the ‘cross-silo’ communication required to achieve the desired outcomes.
The Gwydir Learning Region Committee is a Committee
of the Council. It acts as the catalyst for cooperation.
